Paula West Launches Premier Season
Sunday, September 17, 2006, 2:00pm

Paula West kicks off the first of four performances in the Castro Valley Arts Foundation's 2006/2007 Inaugural Season at the Castro Valley Center for the Arts.  An internationally acclaimed jazz and cabaret performer, Paula is admired for her deep alto voice with impressive range, and her ability to bring an extraordinary quality to any material she sings.
West is well-known in New York, Tokyo, Europe and is a frequent performer in San Francisco's Plush Room, often performing songs by Porter, Bernstein, Brown III, Gershwin and Coleman.  Accompanied by her trio of piano, bass and drums, "I am coming to Castro Valley because they asked me to sing at the new Center for the Arts," where she will present a repertoire of diverse musical numbers.  "It's very important to have a balance in the program," she said.  "I can't sing only ballads, for example, I always have some romantic songs, some "heartbreakers," and some humor."
West's unparalleled ability to sing with the jazz, a primarily instrumental music, and at the same time to bring out every word of the sometime naive, sometime profoundly-touching lyrics pertinent to the genre, makes her special, an outstanding performer.

West was recognized with an Outstanding Female Jazz Vocalist award by the New York Nightlife in 2004, 2005 and 2006!  She toured Greece and Japan at the end of last year, and performed in Moscow this past May.  Her next big gig is in New York in October for the sixth year in a row, but for one afternoon on September 17, the jazz star will be stopping in Castro Valley for everyone to behold.  Don't miss out - buy your tickets now!

Paula's CDs will be available for purchase during the intermission and after her performance.
