Christine Nyvall’s
suite of portraits are exhibited in her solo show Evoking
Likeness. Christine’s ability to translate emotional
vignettes of her friends and family often comment on her own
sensibilities.
Christine states,
“As I examine life, I am provided with the substance from
which I produce work in a variety of content and style…
inspiration comes from the human body. The beautiful forms are
used to contemplate the
inner being of someone.”
Her large,
colorful oil paintings span several years and inherently act
as a diary or record of Christine’s own state of mind. Her
transference is not readily apparent; she captures her
subject’s demeanor vividly while still committing herself to
the canvas. Intrinsically these paintings act as quasi
self-portraits, ultimately creating a mélange of both subject
and artist where boundaries are intractable.
